The Woodland Park Rabbit Rescue is now in progress!
Friends of Park Rabbits (FoPR) is a volunteer-run non-profit group dedicated to improving the lives of feral and abandoned rabbits in the Seattle area and beyond.
May 10, 2007: Rescue Success! Bunnies Looking for Homes...
The Woodland Park Rabbit Rescue has been a complete success thanks to the many volunteers, donors, and supporters who made this project possible. All the rabbits in Woodland, Greenlake, and Meridian Parks have been successfully rescued! Please take a look at the photos of the rabbits at the rescue facility. As you can see they are all healthy, happy, and doing excellent! But we still desperately need you help! We need donations to fund the permanent placement of all the rabbits and compassionate individuals who would like to provide guardianship and sanctuary to a feral rabbit group! We look forward to hearing from you!
To sign up for a volunteer shift working with the rabbits, please contact our volunteer coordinator Carrie Brittingham at (425) 220-2320. You can also reach us through our contact form.
March 25, 2007: Looking for Bunny Homes!
Friends of Park Rabbits and the Woodland Park Rabbit Rescue are looking for compassionate people who would like to create a small rabbit sanctuary or rabbitat on their property and provide a long term home for some of the rescued rabbits. The Rabbitat model from Best Friends (PDF) is one example. But there are other models and all can be adapted to the area, characteristics, and needs of the property. Please contact us if you are interested! We will work with you in the creation of the habitat and can provide continued assistance after placement. But keep in mind that guardianship and care of rabbits is a 10 year commitment of time, money, and love.
March 02, 2007: We're on track!
The rescue is on schedule! Thanks to all of our wonderful volunteers and Program Partners for making it happen! Though we're on track, we still desperately need additional volunteers and donations to buy food, supplies, and provisions for the rabbits. Please help if you can!
January 2007: The rescue is on!
The project is a cooperative effort between Friends of Park Rabbits, Seattle Parks and Recreation, and the local community -- with assistance from several animal rescue organizations.
Our goal is to rescue every rabbit from Woodland, Greenlake, and Meridian Parks before the spring breeding season begins! We believe this rescue will be successful and complete -- but the rabbits desperately need volunteers to feed them and clean their living space now! We also need donations so we can provide them the best environment possible at their new location.
April 23, 2006
Thank you to everyone who came to see us at Greenlake's Easter Rabbit Carnival! We hope you and your kids had a great time! This was our first big event, and we are glad to have gotten the chance to talk to and educate so many community members about the growing Woodland Park feral rabbit population. We hope to see you all again at future events or, even better, as new volunteers. Thanks again for your support!
If you are interested in volunteering with Friends of Park Rabbits, please contact us. Thanks!
